engineering a sustainable future
About Us
Vectis Sustainable Engineering is all about engineering a sustainable future.
The underpinning philosophy is that mankind is responsible for the stewardship of the earth and all that lives on it. This isn’t a new idea, its been around formally since the book of Genesis was written. It’s just that mankind needs to be constantly reminded of this fact and do something about it.
The company was founded in the midst of a global pandemic and a climate crisis.
Clearly there is much work to do!

Overview
Vectis Sustainable Engineering Ltd was founded by Andrew (Andy) Hunt to provide engineering consultancy and solutions that promote and deliver sustainable projects for local communities and economies.
Andy is an altruistic chartered mechanical engineer who started his career in aerospace before an unexpected introduction to scuba diving at university awakened an interest for the underwater world that took his career in a different direction. He is an accomplished sport diver, with a passion for leading expeditions to remote UK locations, especially the west coast of Scotland. It is while leading expeditions to dive the Corrywreckan Whirlpool and adjacent tidal sites of the Firth of Lorn that his professional interest in marine renewables, aquaculture and wider community projects was ignited.
He has extensive and broad experience in the field of subsea engineering having been responsble for the build of many complex underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for one of the world’s leading ROV manufacturing companies. After a brief spell working on land mine clearing systems he returned to the marine environment where he has been working for the last 18 years on numerous research and development projects, both large and small, in the marine energy field.
He specialises in practical systems integration and problem solving and for the last 7 years has worked for one of the world’s leading community scale integrated tidal energy systems companies. During this time he spearheaded development of direct embedment subsea anchoring systems which solved one of the biggest hurdles to lowering the cost of marine renewables energy, namely that of a cost effective direct embedment anchoring system.
